CONGESTION CHARGE – IT’S A MASSIVE NO!

Over 81% of people in Stockport agreed with the Conservatives and voted no to the Government’s congestion charge. Labour were strongly in favour of the congestion charge whilst the Lib Dems were divided across Greater Manchester. The Conservatives consistently opposed the charge across Greater Manchester.

In Stockport 81.1% of people voted no whilst only 18.9% voted yes on a turnout of nearly 60%.

Prospective MP Stephen Holland said, “I am delighted that the people of Stockport came out in their thousands to have their say and overwhelmingly reject Labour’s unacceptable stealth taxes. The Government should now release the £1.5 billion Transport Innovation Fund so that local people in Stockport can decide how to improve their public transport.”
