About Stephen

Stephen was born in 1975 and spent his early years in Cheshire before his parents bought a pub in neighbouring North Staffordshire.

After obtaining a degree in Modern Languages at Oxford University, Stephen trained as a Chartered Tax Adviser with a ‘Big Four’ professional services firm and has assisted Conservative MPs in the Treasury Team on the annual Budget.

Outside of politics, Stephen is a charitable trustee of an organisation for children and young adults with special needs where he is the vice-chair. He is also a school governor. Stephen is committed to protecting green spaces in urban areas and chairs a community group of volunteers to work for improvements in their Green Flag award-winning park.
Stephen speaks Russian, German and French.

Stephen’s Experience

Stephen was elected a district councillor in 2006 when he won his seat from the Liberal Democrats. He has a proven record of standing up for the local community and speaking up for residents to help improve their quality of life.

As a councillor Stephen has chaired committees. Stephen passionately believes in giving the taxpayer value for money and as the cabinet member for finance in 2007-2008 he helped to set the lowest council tax rise for 10 years at his local council. Latterly he has served on the Conservative Councillors’ Association Board.

In November 2008 Stephen was selected to fight Stockport at the next general election.
